Flora and Fauna
Fihalhohi has dense
vegetation (of both short and tall varieties). There are more than 500
numbered palm trees. The island has some of the tallest coconut palm trees
of the South-Male atoll.
Because of the dense vegetation it is easy to find shade
from the sun. There is always a light breeze from the north-east side,
which can become a little heavier during the low season. If you find
yourself in a spot that is too windy, you can easily find another spot
where it is less windy.
With these various
conditions on different spots on the island (in the sun, under the trees,
in the breeze or not), everyone can find a spot on the island where it
pleasant to be.
Fihalhohi has relatively
few mosquito’s, flies and vermin. It accommodates 3 herons, some bats
and some birds. You might also run into geckos, lizards, crabs and
lobsters and with a bit of luck you may even come across a lone palmrat.
